Feeling Anxious: Human Anxiety and Its Impacts on Dog Behavior & Training Webinar

September 17th, 2022 at 2pm-3:30pm CT on Zoom

Feeling Anxious? Human Anxiety and Its Impacts on Dog Behavior & Training is a 1.5-hour Skill Sharper Webinar that will be presented by Lauren Tsao, MS, Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant from Faithfully Yours Dog Training over the Zoom online platform.

Lauren has years of experience working with a variety of dog training cases, as well as other animals like dolphins, crows, chickens, small mammals, and horses using positive reinforcement based training methods to get results and foster behavioral changes. Lauren has a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Applied Animal Behavior and Welfare, which she applies to her work with animals and their owners. Her Master’s research looked at companion dog activity levels inside compared to outside of their fenced yards, as well as United States shelter/rescue policies that require adopters to have yards for dog adoption.

Webinar cost is $25 per person and held over Zoom on September 17th, 2022 at 2pm-3:30pm CT. No dogs will be needed for this webinar - humans only. We highly recommend this webinar to pet professionals, dog owners (novice and up!), and anyone considering adopting dog in the near future.

Feeling Anxious? will cover topics like the following:

  • Does human anxiety transfer onto companion dogs? Can dogs feel our anxiety? Can you make your dog anxious during training or behavior modification if you are anxious yourself? If you are an anxious individual and your dog is an anxious individual, is that a valid reason to rehome your dog?

  • The current scientific research about emotional transference between humans and dogs and what it actually means.

  • Information that pet professionals and dog owners should be aware of to prevent anxiousness from getting the best of them.

  • How pet professionals can better support and empower not only dog clients, but human clients.

  • How to support and empower yourself when your own anxiousness is a factor during training or behavior modification.

  • Things NOT to say when you believe a human client might be anxious during training or behavior modification. Why pointing out someone’s anxiousness can be unhelpful.

  • When and why pet professionals should refer out when in doubt and how to gracefully do so.

  • When dog owners should seek professional support for their dogs and/or themselves.

*Please note this webinar is NOT being presented by a doctor, veterinarian/vet behaviorist, or licensed mental health professional.
The focus of this webinar is to help people understand recent research about behaviors sometimes associated with anxiety in humans and dogs, as well as bring awareness to mental health topics for dogs and humans and educate people on where to find licensed professional help when needed.
This webinar should not be used as a substitute for professional medical, mental health services, or veterinary care nor used as a tool to diagnose yourself, your dog, other dogs or other humans.
