5 Dog Friendly Events in Jackson, MS

Mississippi is slowly becoming a more dog-friendly state, but our local dog lovers do not have much of an internet presence. Unless you are in “the know”, it can be hard to find out about dog-friendly events here in the Jackson, MS area. Well, look no further, my friends! I have made a list of dog-friendly events in Jackson, MS just for you!

So, let’s get started!

1. Fondren’s First Thursday in Jackson, MS

Fondren’s First Thursday (previously known as Fondren After Five) is held the first Thursday of every month from March to December at 5 pm in the Fondren district in Jackson, MS near Duling Street. FFT is a block party held in the streets of Fondren and many local businesses, artists, and crafters set up booths around Fondren. This includes dog-related businesses! We, Faithfully Yours Dog Training, LLC, actually attend as well. Many rescues and shelters, like Cheshire Abbey and Madison ARK, bring adoptable dogs, and sometimes there is even a pop-up dog park set up.

I highly suggest bringing water for both you and your dog during the hotter months. Dogs are allowed on leash.

2. Dog Days of Summer at Pelahatchie Shore Park in Brandon, MS

Community Animal Rescue and Adoptions Inc. (also known as CARA) holds the Dog Days of Summer event annually, typically at Pelahatchie Shore Park. In the past, they have had agility, obedience, and dock jumping demos set up, as well as booths for shopping. They tend to have food for sale and even hold a doggy parade. This event is all about dogs but is held in the hotter months of summer. If you attend, make sure you bring water for both you and your dog!

Dogs can attend on leash.

3. Woofstock Music Festival in Jackson, MS

Woofstock is one of the lesser-known dog-friendly events and it is all about dogs and music! They typically have bands come out at play and have booths set up for local adoption groups too. In the past, this event has been held during October at local parks and is held annually. They also attend St. Paddy’s Day parades and other events as a group.

Dogs can attend on leash.

4. Bright Lights, Belhaven Nights in Jackson, MS

Bright Lights, Belhaven Nights is an event held in the Belhaven area during August. They tend to have music, family fun, and food. Last year was held in Belhaven Neighborhood at Carlisle Street, Kenwood Place, and Belhaven Park. The event is outside and dog friendly, but all dogs must be on leashes. Again, since it is during the hotter months, make sure you bring water for yourself and your dog.

Dogs can attend on leash.

5. Mal’s St. Paddy Parade in Jackson, MS

Mal’s St. Paddy Parade in Jackson, MS is another dog-friendly event. Even though it has already passed this year, I thought it was worth adding for next year. I highly suggest only owners with friendly and well-adjusted dogs attend this event with their dogs. It can be loud and overwhelming for some dogs. However, if you have the right dog, this event can be a lot of fun.

Dogs can attend on leash.
